LISTED HOUSES, SUSTAINABLE RETROFIT
A grade II listed timber-framed house. What is now the central section was built in the seventeenth century. In the nineteenth century, the house was re-cased and the western bay added.
The house had a history of internal and external staining to finishes and failure of plaster. Various repair methods had been tried, and all had failed. I inspected the house and recommended further investigation by a conservator. Infrared thermography, liquid and conductivity moisture and nitrate salt tests were undertaken and informed the repair specification.
Impermeable materials were removed and replaced with breathable materials. Insulation was added to the west gable, and timber panelling installed internally.
I initially worked on this project while at Freeland Rees Roberts.
I was subsequently reappointed as a sole practitioner.
